Tommy Hilfiger and Hiroshi Fujiwara’s FRGMT bring New York and Tokyo together in an exclusive capsule. Grounded in the brand’s ‘90s era, when the roots of TOMMY HILFIGER prep intersected with music and street culture to resonate with a generation, the collaboration unites two distinct cultural perspectives, reinterpreting Classic American Cool through an East-meets-West lens.
Hilfiger and Fujiwara have long looked beyond fashion for inspiration. Music, pop culture and the creative scenes of New York, London and Tokyo shaped their respective points of view, creating a common language that informs the collaboration. For Hilfiger, that instinct dates back to People’s Place, the store he opened at 18, where young people came to discover style, listen to records and connect.
“I’ve always been inspired by bringing different worlds together,” said Tommy Hilfiger. “Hiroshi and I share a deep passion for music, style, and the cultural movements that shape how people dress. For this collection, we went back to some of our favorite ‘90s pieces and looked at them through his distinctly Japanese point of view. The result is a collection that pays tribute to our heritage, while connecting continents, perspectives and generations.”
The collection brings FRGMT’s precision and considered design to icons of the TOMMY HILFIGER wardrobe. The rugby, button-down shirt, varsity jacket, chino and field jacket sit alongside archival favorites including the Regatta jacket, sailing polo and duffel bag. FRGMT signatures appear throughout, from thunderbolt graphics to polka dots, while the Tommy Flag is reworked in light blue. Original fabrications inform the collection, elevated through soft flannel check shirting, dry cotton jersey, washed nylon and heavyweight cotton twill.
“The Tommy attitude in the ’90s stood out to me because it was about more than just the style,” said Hiroshi Fujiwara. “I was into the punk music scene and London culture during my teenage years, and I was always curious about what the artists were wearing. Later, I traveled to New York and discovered hip-hop. In the ’90s, I noticed that many hip-hop artists were wearing TOMMY HILFIGER in their own way, and that really stayed with me. This collection brings together that ’90s nostalgia and my reinterpretation of the Tommy look.”
The campaign taps into New York street culture with a fast-paced, social film. Moving through the city, the video brings uptown prep into a world of skating and spontaneity, as familiar TOMMY HILFIGER codes take on FRGMT’s irreverent edge.
Tommy Hilfiger has long looked beyond fashion to the cultural movements reshaping how people dress. In the ’90s, the brand opened up traditional prep through vibrant color, oversized proportions and a more playful attitude, with those codes taking on new meaning as they moved through the music scenes of the decade. That exchange between heritage and culture has continued across four decades, with collaborations including Patta, Aries and CLOT bringing new perspectives to the brand’s classic prep style.
