Genesis Property survey: Nearly 55% of employees feel tired or overworked at least a few times a week

October 16, 2026

Workload, economic uncertainty and financial pressure are among the main factors draining employees’ energy, while the office is increasingly seen as a space for focus, collaboration and balance. Nearly 55% of employees say they feel tired or overworked because of work either every day or a few times a week, while only 12.5% describe their level of professional energy as very good. At the same time, more than 16% say they frequently feel exhausted, burned out or close to burnout, according to a Genesis Property survey conducted among a sample of 1,026 internet users in Romania.

The data show that workplace pressure is driven by more than workload alone. 20.4% of respondents cite a heavy workload as one of the main factors draining their energy, followed by economic uncertainty, mentioned by 15.9%, and personal financial pressure, cited by 15.4%.

Pressure outside the office is increasingly affecting the workplace experience

For almost a quarter of respondents, financial concerns make them more focused on job security, while 23% say these pressures increase their levels of stress and fatigue. For 14.26%, financial pressure also affects their concentration and energy.

At the same time, more than 33% of employees say that a lack of time and/or energy is the main barrier to their professional development, ahead of the cost of development programmes or a lack of support from their employer.

“When people experience constant pressure and fatigue, the workplace experience becomes more important than the space’s basic functionality alone. The office needs to provide the right conditions for focus and productivity, while also supporting collaboration, connection and opportunities to recharge. In this context, the working environment becomes an important part of the day-to-day professional experience”, said Teodor Stoica, HR Manager, Genesis Property.

What employees expect from the office

For employees, the role of the office is increasingly extending beyond its function as a place to work. Nearly 20% believe the office should primarily be a place for focus and productivity, 19.24% see it as a space for collaboration and connection, while 17.54% consider it important for the office to encourage creativity and the exchange of ideas.

In the long term, professional balance is associated primarily with a sense of security and preserving time for personal life. Financial stability is cited by 15.6% of respondents, time spent with family by 14.2%, and additional days off by 12.5%.

In this context, Genesis Property continues to adapt its developments to evolving ways of working and to the growing need to balance productivity with wellbeing. At YUNITY Park, its office development in the Pipera area, this approach is reflected in green spaces, relaxation areas and facilities designed to support interaction and a sense of community. Total investment in the project has exceeded 50 million euro.

The Genesis Property survey was conducted online in July 2026 among a sample of 1,026 internet users in Romania. More than 54% of respondents are men, 16% are business owners/shareholders or hold management positions, and more than 31% have a net monthly income of over 6,000 lei.
