GEN-I accelerates international growth: takes over management of 200 MW of battery energy storage systems in Bulgaria and announces a doubling of capacity

GEN-I is strengthening its position as a leading provider of battery storage asset management and market optimisation services in Central and Southeastern Europe. By taking over two large-scale battery storage projects in Bulgaria and signing an agreement for nine additional projects, the company will double its managed battery storage capacity in Bulgaria within the next year.

Core Services Provided As the exclusive partner for asset optimisation and energy trading, GEN-I provides comprehensive commercial management services, including:

Current BESS Projects in Bulgaria Developed and constructed by SUNOTEC, both facilities are connected to the electricity grid, featuring a combined capacity of 200 MW output and 505 MWh storage:

  • Brusartsi: 150 MW output capacity / 379 MWh storage capacity
  • Byala Slatina: 50 MW output capacity / 126 MWh storage capacity

Strategic Partnership & Future Expansion Building on their cooperation, GEN-I and SUNOTEC have signed a broader agreement covering nine additional BESS projects:

  • Capacity: 195 MW combined output / 782 MWh storage capacity
  • Timeline: Expected to enter full commercial operation within the next 12 months
