In the first nine months of 2026, the value of claims paid by UNIQA for the SME segment under insurance policies dedicated to the business environment increased by 65% compared to the same period of the previous year. At the same time, the number of claims files settled in this segment recorded a 20% increase. This evolution reflects the growing exposure of small and medium-sized enterprises to unforeseen events, characterized by increasing frequency and severity, generated mainly by operational risks and extreme weather phenomena.
Fires continue to represent the main source of losses for businesses, accounting for more than 60% of the total compensation paid. For this type of risk, the value of claims paid by UNIQA for SMEs was more than twice as high in the first 9 months of 2026 compared to the same period last year.
In the case of fires, the average value of claims paid by UNIQA under insurance policies intended for SME clients reached almost RON 370,000, a level three times higher compared to the first 9 months of 2025.
Among the losses that generated the highest compensation payments were also those caused by short circuits, storms, floods caused by water from pipes, and snow weight. These represented shares ranging between 5% and 8% of the total value of claims paid by UNIQA for SME clients in the first three quarters of 2026.
“The evolution of compensation payments this year highlights an increase in companies’ vulnerability to major risks, especially fires and extreme weather phenomena. The fact that fires generate more than 60% of the total compensation paid to SMEs and that the average value of these claims has tripled compared to the same period last year represents a clear signal for the business environment. In an economic context where operational continuity is essential, investments in prevention and adequate protection solutions become just as important as investments in business development. Our role is to provide companies with the confidence that they can overcome such events and resume their activity as quickly as possible”, stated Ramona Bernic, Vice President of the Management Board of UNIQA Asigurări.
To support companies in managing the increasingly complex challenges of the business environment, UNIQA offers two voluntary insurance solutions dedicated to the corporate segment: UNIBOX and UNIBRIX. Designed to respond to diverse and constantly evolving needs, they provide a high level of flexibility and financial protection tailored to the specific characteristics of each business.
UNIBOX provides extensive coverage for a company’s essential assets, protecting a wide range of property and risks. The solution includes commercial and industrial buildings, fixed and mobile equipment, installations and fences, as well as stock, portable electronic equipment, cash kept on premises, important documents, and solar panels. In addition, the possibility of flexibly determining the insured sums allows for a customized and responsible assessment of operational risks, depending on the particularities of each company.
Complementing this solution, UNIBRIX offers comprehensive and customizable financial protection through a single package of risks, which can be extended through additional clauses. Thus, companies benefit from effective coverage of risks specific to their field of activity and protection tailored to their own needs.
