BuildGreen, a leading sustainability consultancy and building certification company, and VGP, a pan-European owner, manager, and developer of high-quality logistics and light industrial real estate have obtained the BREEAM v6 Outstanding rating, the highest level of BREEAM certification, for VGP Park Split - Building A (31,984 sqm), part of the logistics park developed by VGP in Dugopolje, near Split, Croatia.
"This certification, the first we have obtained for a project in Croatia, confirms that the methodology and expertise we have built in Romania apply just as rigorously wherever we work. This is a remarkable result for the entire project team", said Răzvan Nica, CEO and founder of BuildGreen. "VGP's decision to set a minimum certification level for every building shows an ESG strategy already aligned with European regulation, and the result in Split, well above that threshold, shows how high such a commitment can reach", Răzvan Nica added.
As with all new projects of VGP, it also aims to comply with the EU Taxonomy, and includes infrastructure prepared for additional sustainability solutions, such as photovoltaic installations, electric vehicle charging stations and water treatment systems, all available upon request from future tenants.
VGP Park Split - Building A obtained the maximum score in two of the most relevant criteria for an industrial park, energy efficiency and waste management, and near-maximum scores for project management and pollution control. The assessment also covered water management, materials selection, health and wellbeing, transport, land use and ecology, and innovation.
The high scores for materials and waste are becoming all the more relevant now that the new version of the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) took effect on 27 May 2026, requiring, for the first time, the calculation of embodied carbon resulting from materials, transport and construction alongside the energy performance certificate, for any new project. A BREEAM Outstanding rating, obtained before this requirement becomes mandatory, puts VGP Park Split ahead of the regulatory curve
VGP Park Split will have a total of 74,000 m² of logistics and industrial premises, spread over 2 buildings. The BREEAM Outstanding certification adds to the advantage VGP Park Split already holds through the project's strategic location. It is situated 15 km from the Port of Split, 30 km from Split "St. Jerome" International Airport, at the junction of the E-65 and D1 motorways, in an important logistics hub for trade flows across the Adriatic and Southeast Europe, ideal for logistics service providers, commercial and manufacturing companies.
VGP is a pan-European owner, manager, and developer of logistics and industrial parks , with projects in 16 countries, from Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria and Portugal, to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania (Arad, Brașov, Bucharest, Sibiu, Timișoara), Serbia and Croatia (Split, Zagreb).
For BuildGreen, the project adds to a portfolio of more than 500 BREEAM, LEED and EDGE certifications, achieved over 15 years of activity, and confirms the company's expansion beyond the Romanian market, into new markets across the region.
